TCMS Parents/Guardians,
Today, your child will bring home a paper with your parent login information for the Unified Classroom Behavior Support program. Once you set up your account, you’ll have real-time access to track your child’s behavior history, including positive actions aligned with our Character Counts curriculum, any misbehaviors, and any lunch detention or tutoring assignments. A copy of this information will also be mailed to you next week.
You can access your Behavior Support Parent Portal profile through the website listed on the paper, or download the app for iPhone and Android (picture attached). We’re excited to introduce this new tool to enhance our partnership in supporting your child’s growth. If you have any questions, please call the school!
Note: This is not the same parent portal as WVEIS Gradebook. This is a separate program we are utilizing to collect behavior data and support student behavior.
Today, Mr. Maiden's TASK students completed their first trial run for the Annual Pumpkin Drop by dropping their pumpkins from the highest point of the school to gather data. Students are currently working on developing protective structures for their pumpkins, with the goal of the pumpkin not getting damaged from the drop. TASK students will be competing in the Annual Pumpkin Drop on October 25 at the WVU Science Engineering Tower that stands 11 stories tall. Pumpkins must weigh under 50 pounds, be at least 10 inches in diameter, and free fall into a designated drop zone. All designs must prioritize public safety, with no hazardous splattering, and allow ground crew to remove the pumpkin within 30 seconds. More information on the Annual Pumpkin Drip can be found here: https://mmae.statler.wvu.edu/student-life/annual-pumpkin-drop

Attention 6th Grade Parents/Guardians:
Tonight, all 6th-grade students will be bringing home a permission form for their upcoming fall field trip to Blennerhassett on October 17th. Please note that these forms are due by this Friday, October 11th. While the field trip policy won’t apply to our fall academic trips, only students with a signed permission form will be allowed to attend. Please call the school if you have any questions.
Dr. Shaun Meckley, Mountain Valley Animal Clinic, spoke with Mrs. Feldmeier’s and Ms. Riggs’ DYF classes today. They learned about perseverance and hard work and the ins and outs of being a veterinarian, including how to care for animals and looking at x-rays.
Attention Parents and Guardians: This is a reminder that tomorrow, Friday, October 4 will be a 2-hour early release for students. Students will be dismissed at 1:25pm.
We’re thrilled to bring this exciting opportunity to our students this year! In partnership with New Martinsville School, both schools will host basketball games during the school day featuring our boys and girls varsity teams. At TCMS, students must meet our field trip policy requirements for attendance, behavior, and academics to attend the game on January 17. Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to the dates. #KnightsPride
Students in Mrs. Boso’s Discover Your Future class had a guest speaker today! Our very own Nurse Jan came to talk to students about her nursing experiences such as scrubbing in on surgeries, working in the nursing home, and becoming a school nursing.
Nurse Jan gave students a brief history lesson on Florence Nightingale and how she helped shape modern day nursing care.
She defined what nursing entails, skills required for the job, steps towards becoming a nurse, and the job opportunities for both RN and BSN.
Today in Mr. Weber’s health class students discovered how smoking affects lung capacity and efficiency, and why it’s so important to keep your lungs healthy. The side by side comparison of pig lungs showed students the difference in shape, size, and how the lungs work.
