TCMS Jazz Band on their way to Huntington for the Marshall University Winter Jazz Festival!
The TCMS Jazz Band participated in the 55th Annual Marshall University Winter Jazz Festival yesterday. The band gave quite an impressive performance and received many compliments from the judges, who are all faculty members in the Marshall University School of Music.
The band received a clinic after their performance from one of the judges, who gave them tips on how to continue improving their technique and overall musicianship. All participating bands also received a masterclass in jazz improvisation from award-winning jazz artist Earl McDonald.
Though the high school has always had a jazz band, the TCMS Jazz Band was just created last spring. Their performance yesterday was the ensemble’s first time participating in a festival event.
Michael Cooper, a 7th grade trombone player, was named an Outstanding Soloist for the event. He is pictured here with TCHS Jazz Band member Kaylee Haught, who also received an Outstanding Soloist Award and coincidentally is also a trombone player.
